Event Notes

× Midsummer’s weekend in Edinburgh. It’s raining. Bob & Helena eye each other across the bar. He's a failing car salesman on the fringes of the city’s underworld. She's a high-powered divorce lawyer with a taste for other people’s husbands. She’s totally out of his league. He’s not her type at all. They absolutely should not sleep together. Which is, of course, why they do. Midsummer is the hilarious musical story of a great lost weekend of ill-advised romance: bridge-burning, car chases, wedding bust-ups, midnight trysts, poignant pop songs, honest humour, and self-loathing hangovers.

“A winning quirky show – almost a romantic comedy, almost a musical; Midsummer sends you away happy.” – National Post
★★★ (out of 4) “It’s a light, funny, endearing show featuring two charming performers; Midsummer has the polish that festival productions don’t always have, but the joy and spontaneity that other seasonal fare sometimes lacks.” – Toronto Star
★★★ (out of 4) “Bernier Evans’s production is plentifully playful; Both Street and McGibbon [are] the ideal casting for this kind of fare.” – The Globe & Mail
“If you need a break from the daily news cycle of disaster and devastation, Midsummer (a play with songs), a quirky 95-minute rom-com, will provide sweet diversion.” – NOW Magazine
“Midsummer is a fun and riotous bit of storytelling that is easy to laugh at and get caught up in. The performance is entertaining, lighthearted, and worth seeing.” – Mooney on Theatre
★★★★ “Exhilarating… you float out laughing as if you’ve just swallowed sunshine on a spoon.” – The Guardian (past production)
