× Today's Reading:

look away from me
by Aisling Murphy

look away from me is a verbatim collage of interview transcripts, play quotes, diary entries, and review quotes. Together, these scraps bind together to present a conversation between British playwright Sarah Kane and contemporary Canadian theatre criticism, using Toronto-based theatre critic Aisling Murphy as a point of entry into these disparate, often contradictory worlds.

Following the reading, join us for a conversation around contemporary Canadian playwriting and criticism in relation to look away from me, hosted by Intermission Magazine. The conversation will be moderated by Carly Maga and joined by theatre critics and scholars.

Duration: Approximately 2.5 hours (reading + conversation)

The [Theatre] Play
Created by Griffin McInnes with Anahita Dehbonehie and Aidan Morishita-Miki

Immerse yourself in collaborative creation at Tarragon Theatre's groundbreaking event! Join Griffin, Anahita, and Aidan as they guide you through a unique journey where the audience becomes the playwright. Harnessing the power of AI, together we'll weave a tapestry of stories, emotions, and imagination, shaping a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience. Don't just watch the play, become a part of its creation!" - an obviously AI-generated synopsis of The [Theatre] Play.

Taking inspiration from interviews with dozens of Tarragon community members, this gently-participatory performance experiment uncovers the all-too-human reasons we make and consume plays. The [Theatre] Play is less “staged reading”—and more “staged writing.”

Duration: Approximately 90 minutes (reading + talkback)
