In 1972, when Leaving Home burst onto the scene, it transformed Canadian theatre — and it remains an incredibly powerful drama to this day. In Leaving Home we are introduced to the Mercer family, immigrants from Newfoundland to Toronto, struggling to find their way in the late 1950s. Ben has just graduated from high school, and his brother Billy’s wedding is imminent. But conflicts with their volatile father, Jacob, threaten to destroy the family and the life they’ve carved out for themselves.

Leaving Home was first produced at Tarragon in May of 1972 and holds a special place in the history of our Theatre. It’s touted as the play that ‘saved’ Tarragon from some financial woes just after our inception, and we’re excited to re-imagine it in an audio form for a new audience.

Pre-purchased Tarragon Acoustic Subscriptions and Tickets will receive an email on the day of the event outlining instructions on how to access the content. Tickets purchased after the opening date (Sept 10) will receive the instruction email within 24 hours of purchase.
