We’re Funny That Way is Presented by: Sokoloff Personal Injury Lawyers

The We’re Funny That Way® festival began in 1996, co-founded by activist (ex-lawyer), performer, writer, producer, and stand-up comic Maggie Cassella and filmmaker David Adkin. It was the first international queer performance festival in the world.

Over the years the festival has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for queer charities across Canada. Past performers have included stars like Orange is the New Black star actor/singer/comic, Sag Award Winner Lea DeLaria, Emmy winners Leslie Jordan and Margot Kidder, Tony winner Betty Buckley, sitcom star Jim J. Bullock, queer comedy pioneers Kate Clinton, Bob Smith, Karen Williams, the late great Steve Moore, and soooo many more.

This year the Foundation is thrilled to be supporting the Shining Mountains Two Spirit Renewal Project in Red Deer, Alberta. Shining Mountains is an aboriginal centre that provides services that address homelessness, suicide prevention, domestic violence, addiction, healthy lifestyles, self-sufficiency, advocacy, HIV/AIDS and/or HCV. Proceeds from the festival this year will go directly to fund the Two Spirit Renewal project with an emphasis on helping LGBTQ2S youth.
